Bamboo forest planned at Hunsur in memory of Urs

While Kallahalli in Hunsur taluk, the native of former chief minister DDevaraj Urs is all set for a makeover with the stategovernment adopting the village, afforestation is set to get a boost in the taluk.

Under a programme 'Tree Park', the state Forest department will be developing 'Bidiru Vana' (bamboo forest) named after DevarajUrs on 150 acres of land, announced former MP A HVishwanath, Chairman of the executive committee of D Devaraj Ursbirth centenary celebrations.

Addressing media here on Saturday, Vishwanath said, "As part of the ongoing birth centenary celebrations of Urs, an awareness campaign has been planned from July
20 in all the four revenue divisions in the state. It is intended to spread the message on the programmes initiated by Urs and also his achievements as the chief minister. Tableaux and other publicity drives are planned for the campaign."

Vishwanath said that the drive is timed a month ahead of the conclusion of the centenary celebrations on August 20 in Bengaluru.

"Dance ballets and plays, focused on Urs, will also make a start from Hunsur on June 6, the death anniversary of the leader. While the ballet and play will be staged in Hunsur town, various cultural programmes will be held at Kallahalli, besides Bettadathunga, the birth place of Urs in Periyapatna taluk. Later, the programme will be extended to other parts of the state. It has been decided to host a five-day programme at RavindraKalakshetra in Bengaluru," he added.

Books titled 'Arasu Navayuga Nayaka' (Arasu leader of modern era), 'Arasu Munnota' (Arasu Forethoughts), 'Odanadi Arasu' (Companion Urs), 'Arasu Chitrakatha Kosha' (photo gallery), 'Vidhanamandaladalli Arasu' (Arasu in VidhanaSoudha) and others will be published. Leadership training camps for youth is another initiative by the committee.

"A State-level seminar on 'Arasu Matthu Aadhunika Karnataka' (Urs and modern Karnataka) has been planned in Bengaluru,Shivamogga,Dharwad andKalaburagi districts. The government is also committed to install the bust of Urs near D Devaraj Urs road in Mysuru city," he added.
