After their comfortable 45-run victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli credited Parvez Rasool as 'the stand-out bowler' of the tie.
On a batting friendly track, Rasool bagged the crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan and gave away just 31 runs in his quota of four overs. Following a promising start, the right-arm off-spinner is keen on continuing his good work for his new team.
"My confidence has gone up after the first match. There were many left-handers in their (Sunrisers) team and enjoyed bowling to them," said Rasool, who played for the Hyderabad franchise in the previous two seasons.
Defending a mighty total of 227, RCB were helped by vital performances from their spin duo of Rasool and Yuzvendra Chahal. Rasool opined that it is a challenging task for spinners in the sprint format of the game but added that head coach Daniel Vettori has played a crucial role in his preparations for the season.
"When you speak of spin bowling, especially if you look at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it is very challenging to bowl. But thanks to our coach Daniel Vettori, I am able to do well. I keep talking to him and he is helping me on how to bowl to different kind of batsmen under different situations."
The 27-year-old became the first player from Jammu & Kashmir to bag the India cap when he was picked for the one-day international series against Bangladesh last year. However, following his one and only ODI, the all-rounder hasn't gotten the nod from the selectors.
"For any player it is important to perform in the IPL as you can grab the attention. I have started off well in the tournament and hope I keep continuing to play well," he said.
Describing his role in the team as a spinner who can also bat, Rasool said that he is working hard on his batting skills. "I did well in this domestic season and I was the highest scorer in the Vijay Hazare for my team this time. In this IPL, I want to play with many quality players and improve my batting," he noted.
